How to Give

THE WHY
Our Response to God. Our giving to God through the church is essentially an expression of our love for him.
The bible teaches that everything we have belongs to God and is given to us by him, in trust for him. (1 Chron. 29:14). Our giving back to God demonstrates our recognition of this fact. The bible also teaches the giving of tithes (10% of the harvest or income) & offerings. The tithe is what we are due to pay to God, the offering is our voluntary giving in excess of the tithe.
We are not under law but Jesus commended those who tithed (Luke 11:42).
As a church we encourage all our members to give 10% of their income to God through the church but we recognize it is a personal decision.
Our Responsibility to Each Other The other reason we give to God through the church is to enable us as a church family to be effective in our worship, work and witness.
We have an exciting vision of all that God is calling us to be and to do but most of it requires some kind of financing. This may be giving to missions; paying our staff; looking after our buildings; enabling youth & children’s ministry or engaging in outreach.
All these things cost money and our annual budget is currently in excess of £200,000. As a church family we depend on each member playing their part both in serving and giving.
THE HOW
Standing Order The most popular way of giving is by Standing Order via your bank. This enables you to decide how much you want to give each month and when you want to give it. The Church knows how much it is receiving which helps with planning our budget. You simply complete a Standing Order form which you can download, and when completed we will send it to your bank.
Envelope Scheme We supply you with weekly envelopes to put in the offertory bowl when you come to Church.

Cash If you are unable to commit to a regular amount you can give by cash each week, putting it in the offering bowl.
Annual or One off Gifts If you find it easier to make an annual gift or you wish to make a one off gift in addition to your regular giving, this can be done by simply writing a cheque payable to “St Matthew’s & St. Oswald's PCC”.
Gift Aid If you pay tax, you can increase the value of your gift at no cost to yourself by signing a Gift Aid form, which you can download. This enables us to claim the tax you have paid back from the Inland Revenue, at present an extra 28p in every £1 you give.
This will apply to all money you give to the Church by any of the means above except loose cash put in the bowl. If you can only pay by cash we can claim back the tax you have paid only if you use the envelope scheme .
Charity “Cheques” If you have an account with one the charity services, CAF, Stewardship Services etc you can give to m2o by using their “cheques”.
Legacies A gift from your estate can be included in your will. This in one way some people like to make a gift for the future.
