Equipping Disciples
Being a disciple is all about being on a journey of faith; growing in our knowledge of God, and our friendship with Jesus. We all need help and encouragement throughout the journey, whether we've been a Christian for a short time or a long time. At St. Matthew's we have many opportunities for personal growth and development, including a number of specifically arranged events and courses:
First Steps - Belonging to the Community of St. Matthew's & St. Oswald's
People come into contact with St. Matthew’s & St. Oswald's in various ways and start attending for a variety of reasons. First Steps is a welcome event, offered to everyone who is new to us. It is an opportunity to meet our Vicar and his wife, Martin and Jackie Saxby. The evening includes a basic introduction to what it means to be part of St. Matthew's & St. Oswald's - what we stand for and where we are going. It provides an opportunity, as appropriate, for you to make a commitment to Christ and to membership of St. Matthew's & St. Oswald's.
'Network' Course - Serving in St. Matthew’s & St. Oswald's
Part of our growing as disciples includes being involved in ministry of some kind. We offer the 'Network' Course to help you discover your personal ministry. The Network process helps you to identify your passion, your spiritual gifts and your personal style, which ensures you serve in a way, and in a place, that God designed you for, either in the church or through the church.
This process involves three evenings, or two Saturdays, followed by a one hour consultation in order to explore the opportunities for serving.
Reach Out from St. Matthew’s & St. Oswald's
Reaching out to others can be a daunting prospect, and most people need some help in sharing their faith in appropriate ways. There are a number of Outreach courses we run that will help you to communicate your faith in a style that fits you personally, and enable you to do so naturally and confidently. These courses provide an opportunity for you to express a commitment to sharing your faith and to active involvement in witness, evangelism and service in the world.
