Personal Growth
God wants our relationship with him to develop and our characters to mature so that we think, love, act and react like Jesus. Discipleship is about transformation - becoming more like Jesus.
- It is not automatic
- It is a process, not an instant fix
- It takes time and discipline
Colossians 3: 9-10 says "for you have taken off the old self with its habits and have put on the new self. This is the new being that God, its creator, is constantly renewing in his own image, in order to bring you to a full knowledge of himself."
God is the one who changes us. We cannot do it ourselves. God is the one who created our new life. He is the re-newer and the transformer. It is his work to make us like him.
Philippians 2:13 says "for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose."
God has given us his Holy Spirit who lives in us, and helps us, guides us and stregthens us.
Our part is to put off the old self with its old habits and to put on the new self with new habits; to place ourselves where God can do his work in us.
