Listening like Jesus who heals - 20 November 2007
Have you noticed how Jesus rarely heals people in the same way? Take blind people: One He took outside the village, away from the pressure of onlookers and friends (Mark 8:22-26). Another He sent to the pool of Siloam to wash (John 9). Bartimaeus received instantaneous healing after shouting at Jesus! (Mark 10:46-52)
It’s very revealing of Jesus’ loving ministry that He responds to each individual differently. I imagine Jesus really listening in His spirit to the needs of each one, and acting accordingly. One size does not fit all.
Can we learn how to respond to people, with hearts of compassion and ears open to their need, whilst listening at the same time to Jesus’ response to that person?
We have a perfect role model in Jesus, and although we have a fantastic message to share, let’s first show Jesus’ value of people by listening, respecting their individual needs and journey of faith / life, then offer what we hear of God’s love.
And know that the same goes for us too! |
