Our Father in heaven 29 October 2007
The theme for this week is the Lord’s Prayer. Before reading any further why not sit quietly and pray the Lord’s Prayer; and then commit to do the same each day this week.
‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.’
Hallow is not a word that we commonly use. It means to set apart as sacred, consecrate as holy. Our personal relationship with God is easier for us if we view God as a father type figure rather than as the all powerful, all seeing, creator God that he is.
“The Lord reigns, let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth shake. Great is the Lord in Zion; he is exalted over all the nations. Let them praise your great and awesome name – he is holy.” Psalm 99:1-3
The Lord God Almighty is an awesome God. He is the King of Kings, the Lord of Lord’s, and the Name above all Names. We should be quaking in our boots at thought of being in His presence; the Old Testament Jews thought that they would die if they were to see His face. When we try and imagine how big and powerful God is we just can’t do it; it’s beyond our comprehension, beyond our limited understanding.
Yet this awesome God loves each one of us so much that He sent His Son to die for us so that we can be free. How amazing is that? – Something for us to marvel at during the rest of the day.
Thank you Father for sending Jesus to be the Saviour of us all. |
