A Lifestyle of Prayer – Wed 5 September 2007
Paul tells us to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thess 5:17) – this is a lifestyle of prayer. Rachel Hickson again has something helpful to say:
“Prayer is a lifestyle, not just something you put in your schedule to do in the morning or whenever. All of us need to live with the sense that we are ready to communicate with the Living God at any time, to be connected to Him in such a way that He is involved with every area of our lives….
God wants you to have a lifestyle of prayer that means you are in constant touch with Him, talking about everyday needs and even the most mundane of things. But He also wants you to have times of focussed intimacy with Him too. Prayer on the run is fine, as long as there are “deep contact” times too. A healthy prayer life is like a healthy marriage: it is possible to go about life busily, keeping in touch by cell phone and getting on with things, but you also need time alone, just the two of you, with no interruptions. In your prayer life there needs to be times where it is just you and God, sitting opposite one another, face to face, heart to heart, and you talk…” Rachel Hickson “Supernatural Communication”
We need to break out of a straightjacket of rules about how and when we should pray – what is important is that we do pray and, that it is a regular expression of a genuine relationship with our loving Father.
Such a relationship transforms our lives – maybe yours needs some transforming today!
Father please meet with me throughout this day and help me find that special time and place to meet with you. Amen |

| | | Margaret Dye | 06/09/2007 21:50 | Great messages this week about prayer. Great reminders of how it should be. Makes me realise just how much I do talk to God but also how much I fail, when I realise how much more time Jesus spent with Him. Reading Wednesday's Devotional made me analyse my prayer life in a way that I have not done for a long time and I realise that there is not a day when I don't talk to God but there is a higher level of intimacy to be reached if only I could be still more often. It occurred to me that with all the world to care for, God has time for me. How small are my responsibilities by comparison. I must learn to be still for longer in His presence. Very thought provoking Devotionals Martin.
