Basking in the sunshine! Friday 20th July
My holiday today takes me as far as Futuroscope and a day of discovery and adventure. A welcome escape again after the 250 miles travelled yesterday! We’re one day nearer to our ultimate goal, and my dream of soaking up the sunshine and the scenery.
Some folk find it hard to slow down and relax. I certainly take a few days to wind down into holiday mode, to not feel guilty about just sitting and relaxing, enjoying the sunshine and not feeling I should be being busy.
It’s okay to take time out when we feel the need. Indeed in our busy lifestyles it is very important for us to take time to be still, quiet, and reflective. It’s not a sin to sit in the sun with a G&T or beer and read or sleep! And if the sun doesn’t shine – do it anyway! That’s what New Wine is for!!
It is on holiday that I often feel closest to God. When I am away from all the hustle and bustle of daily life, when I am away from all that drags me down and wears me out; when I am in places of beauty, looking into the mountains or listening to the sea I find it easier to see God around me and to feel him close to me.
This summertime take time to just sit and be with God. Seek to find him in all the beauty around you. Look for Him in the sun, the wind and the rain; in the sea, the flowers, the mountains, the beaches and the gardens. And as you seek Him out, allow Him to guide you on the next step of your journey; Trust him to take your unnecessary baggage from you; and most of all enjoy basking in the Sons glory.
Lord God. Thank you for the times you give us to sit back and relax. Help us to not feel guilty about slowing down and relaxing. Help us to see, hear and feel you in all that is around us this summertime. May we bask in your glory and soak up your restoring and refreshing spirit wherever we are and whatever we are doing. AMEN.
Happy holidays to you all!
God Bless. |

| Tues 10 July - Children should be part of the church | | Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.” This verse is brilliant to get boring old Anglican churches to have a Sunday school so only the adults are bored to death in the services while the children colour in pictures of Noah’s big boat.
