Baggage. Wednesday 18th July.
I confess I am somebody who likes to travel with everything but the kitchen sink. I have to take clothes for every type of weather, food for emergencies, toys for peace and quiet and numerous other things for “just in case” and “you never know…”
I like to be sure of having all my “things” around me, even when I’m away from home. It is my comfort and security to have the things I know and trust, the things that make me feel happy and secure. I could travel a lot lighter, but I prefer to travel jam packed with unnecessary things instead! I’m sure it slows the car down, and it certainly slows the packing as I struggle to remember absolutely everything, but at least I’m happy!
What baggage do you carry around unnecessarily? Are there things that you choose to take with you, to carry around rather than letting go and lightening your load? What do you struggle to let go of and leave behind?
Jesus tells us to leave our burdens with Him, to trust Him with the things that hold us back or weigh us down. Cast your burdens onto Jesus, because He does care for you. He has the strength to carry it all to make the journey easier for us. And He’ll even carry US if we need Him to!
Lord Jesus, please help me to let go of the things that slow me down or hold me back. Help me to trust that you will take those burdens from me and help me with the journey as you walk beside me. Amen. |

| Tues 10 July - Children should be part of the church | | Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.” This verse is brilliant to get boring old Anglican churches to have a Sunday school so only the adults are bored to death in the services while the children colour in pictures of Noah’s big boat.
