Life is a journey. Tuesday 17th July
Having made our choice of destination, the next decision is how we actually get there. For some there are no choices here – they have only one option available to them, so that’s the route they take.
However, with so many modes of transport, and the wonders of modern technology we do have a lot more choices available to us. Some favour the road, others rail. Some choose to fly, others will take a boat. Some trust their navigational skills, others prefer a map. And now we have the challenge of listening to a computerised voice from within our cars telling us exactly where to go! I must confess quite often I tell THEM exactly where to go!
Do you choose your own route, firm in the knowledge that you know best? Or do you trust somebody else to navigate? Will you listen to a voice in a box telling you where to go, trusting that they know best, and can see the problems ahead that you may be unaware of?
In our daily life it very easy to believe that we know best. We have our life all nicely planned out, believing we know what is best for us, and that we know exactly where we are going and how we’re going to get there.
However, the truth is that actually there is only one person who really knows the way. He already has our life’s journey planned out, knowing the best way for us to go. He knows where we will get stuck, or get lost along the way. He allows us to deviate from the path he has set in order for us to learn that in fact he does know the best way.
It may be tempting to think we know better, but in order to get to where God wants us to be, we need to listen to his voice and trust the way he tells us to go; He can see the problems ahead and wants to guide us in the right paths.
Father God, Thank you that you have my life’s journey planned out. Forgive me for the times when I have taken my route and not yours. Please help me today to listen to your voice and to be guided by you into the right paths. AMEN. |

| Tues 10 July - Children should be part of the church | | Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.” This verse is brilliant to get boring old Anglican churches to have a Sunday school so only the adults are bored to death in the services while the children colour in pictures of Noah’s big boat.
