Where am I going? Monday 16th July
Holiday time will very soon be upon us, so this week we’re off on a journey! When we’re planning our holidays, one of the first things we need to decide is where we’re off to. Various things contribute to this – cost, distance, attractions, weather and previous experience.
Some people head off time and time again to the same place, a place they are familiar with where they know the area, the customs, the language. They prefer to stick with what they know and love, in a place where they feel comfortable and secure in the knowledge they know where they are and what they can do. They head to places where they know they are understood and can understand others with no language barriers.
Others choose to venture to new destinations, and visit different areas and countries. They like the excitement of exploring new places, the challenge of coping with different languages, and the pleasure of learning about different areas or cultures. Some seek the sun, others the snow.
I fall more within the first group. I like to know where I am and what I can expect. I like the security of knowing the language and the food. And I do love my sunshine! I was recently faced with the opportunity of stepping outside of my “comfort zone” (or should that be frying pan?!) and visiting somewhere totally new to me; a place where I would be faced with numerous new experiences and challenges. Unfortunately, it was not possible for me to take up the opportunity this time, but it did get me thinking about my comfort zones, both in holiday terms and in my life in general.
So – my question to you today is this: In your Christian life - Where are you going? Are you sticking with your comfort zones, travelling the routes you know well and where you feel secure. Or are you willing to try new territories and explore new areas in your life and your ministry to others?
Father God, please help us to know where you want us to be going. Help us not to be afraid to try a new path, firm in the knowledge that you are walking beside us to help and guide us along the way. AMEN. |

| Wed 11 July - The Rocks will cry out | | When the Israelites were moaning in the desert for water, God gave it to them – quite miraculously too - water from a rock. If you don’t know the story, that is pretty much it!

| Tues 10 July - Children should be part of the church | | Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.” This verse is brilliant to get boring old Anglican churches to have a Sunday school so only the adults are bored to death in the services while the children colour in pictures of Noah’s big boat.
