Flooding – not in God’s control…? – Mon 9 July

I am hoping that things will tie in to living with a heavenly perspective and I also apologise for this first day being long – there is just a lot to say!

As I am doing this for St Matthews I feel I have to put a bible quote in, at least for the first one of the week. So here it is:

“For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.” Romans 8:20-21

The good thing is, the verse fits in really well with what I want to say, and has been a challenge and comfort to me over the last few weeks.

I think it is strange that I had never heard this verse before, as I think it says so much!

The first thing I think it says is that God wants (wills) the world to be frustrated. This to me seemed shocking, but of course it makes sense – why would anything happen that God didn’t want, or at least allow?

The point is, well my point, maybe not the only point Paul is trying to make, is, these things point to an age when Creation will be liberated and freed – God is in control. On the one hand it does in fact make no sense at all, but when you test your spirit it will, and in the end it is very freeing!

You are free not to worry about floods, not to worry about work, terrorism, global warming, young people running wild, relationships, or even the state of the church – because God is in control – he always has been, and always will be.

I know this is said a lot – but I don’t think it is understood, think about it today and this week – how differently would you live if you knew God was in control, what things would you not bother doing, or worrying about if you really knew.

There wont be problems in heaven, so surely worrying about things now is not bringing heaven closer to earth – so don’t worry and lets see the kingdom come!

Thank you for reminding me of this, I needed to hear it right now. Both Matthew 6 and the following reiterate. God is in control why do we worry?
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-8
So if things seem to be going wrong we only have to ask, 'What is God trying to tell me through this?' and being able to do that honestly is a whole other subject. Sheree.

That is really true, and i think and feel that when we see try and seek what God is up to we do get that peace - it is a mystery really - one of those spiritual things, but somehow just trusting in God makes us peaceful - guess it makes sense really as we were made to do that! Glad it was helpful to you - the hard thing with trusting God is when he wants something you don't!
