I’m a Celebrity, get me out of here! - 26th June 2007
Now I’m not a big reality TV watcher, but this programme I find more tolerable than most, in that there is a remote possibility I may have heard of some of the contestants.
For those who don’t know, some minor celebs are dumped in the Australian jungle and left to fend for themselves, with the daily opportunity to win food for the group by completing Bush tucker trials. These are without exception disgusting, and often involve the consumption of some part or another of an animal. To end these ‘trials’ because they cannot face the prospect of eating such “delicacies” all the celebrity has to do is say ‘I’m a Celebrity, get me out of here!’ On a daily basis, we, the great British public vote for a celebrity to be booted out, based on their performance or lack of, at which point they walk across a bridge to a 5 star hotel, are interviewed by Ant and Dec and quaff champagne – a welcome return to the celeb lifestyle.
It struck me that Jesus did something a bit like this when he went into the desert for 40 days and was tempted by the devil. I guess he had the option of saying ‘I am the Son of God, get me out of here’ because actually he found the challenge a bit hard and he wanted the game to stop and fancied a bit of bread (Matthew ch 4 v 3). The great thing is, Jesus stood firm and faced up to the devil because he knew that’s what he had to do, and what would have happened if he had given in?
Let me leave you with this thought. Life can be a bit hard sometimes, and often there can be an easy route out. Is that God’s route, or one put there by someone else? I was watching another reality TV show when the following quote was made – ‘pain is temporary, but success is forever’.
Have a good day! |
