Seeing into the Future - Friday 16th March 2007
There is a promise to do with eyes that has nothing to do with sight and everything to do with feeling. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes’ Revelation 21:4 The intimacy and tenderness expressed in this short phrase is overwhelming. It implies there will be time for God to tend to every wound, every grief, every loss and that his comfort will be personal and direct. It’s hard for us to imagine a time when there won’t be tears, death, mourning or pain. ‘No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him’ 1 Corinthians 2:9 Paul is quoting from the prophet Isaiah. Clearly Heaven will be beyond imagining. This future ‘vision’ is meant to sustain us on our journey here. We are to fix our eyes beyond the horizon of death, on a future we cannot even imagine. ‘Therefore we do not lose heart….For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us and eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal’“ 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 So if the outlook isn’t looking good, try the uplook. |
