What if… I can’t see a thing? - Wed 14th March 2007

We’ve been talking this week about eyes, keeping them wide open in faith to see God and to see the reality of his love and presence in our world. But what if you simply can’t see a thing? I don’t mean literally, I mean what if you feel lost, lacking direction, anxious about how the future will turn out because you just can’t see your way ahead? Doesn’t God’s word promise us that it will be a ‘lamp to my feet and a guide to my path’? Psalm 119:105

There are some key scriptures that tell us what to do when we ‘can’t see a thing’.
Isaiah 42:16 promises ‘I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn darkness into light before them’. Notice that God doesn’t promise instant sight for the blind, but he does promise his presence, his leading, guiding and eventual illumination.
In Micah 7:8 the prophet warns those who gloat over him ‘Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light’. Back in Isaiah the instruction couldn’t be clearer ‘Let those who walk in the dark, who have no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on their God’. (50:10)
So today, if you feeling a bit ‘in the dark’, tell God that you are resolving to trust Him anyway.
