Trusting in the Master’s Hands – 15 December 2006
Trust in him (the Lord) and …….. he will make your righteousness shine like the dawn… Psalms 37 vs 5 (New International Version)
Whilst working on the computer today, the Lord prompted me to look up the meaning of the word “trust” from the dictionary, and here is what I found:
· Confidence in and reliance on good qualities of somebody e.g. fairness, truth, honour and ability
· In the good care of somebody
· Expected to behave responsibly
· Holding and managing of money or property belonging to somebody else for an example that of a minor
I suddenly became alive to the many scriptures I had read describing the character of God as One who can be trusted. I began to smile and remembered how many prayers I had prayed and how many offerings I had given and thought all this was in vain. I suddenly realised I was not always trusting in the Lord – I didn’t have confidence in Him, I didn’t think he could be trusted with any of my problems, I didn’t believe He would behave responsibly like I often want others to believe when I am handling their business, and I didn’t humble myself enough to think of myself as a minor.
In his kindness the Lord further explained to me what trusting means. He said draw the shape of an egg on a clean sheet of paper. Write all the issues, prayers and supplications that you keep on making inside the oval shape. Fold the paper and put it between the pages of your bible that speak PROMISES about your situation and then trust Me to bring the promises to pass.
How often do we miss God’s providence by not learning from mother hen and her eggs!
- There is a time for everything
- A time for the hen to lay eggs (praying for our concerns and sowing the seeds of righteousness)
- A time of darkness when the chicks are hidden from us, being cared for and developing (things may not be going on as we expect because we cant see the embryos inside the shells. Besides we quickly forget that once we pray the issues are no longer in our hands and so when the hen (Master) makes a gentle move to turn the eggs we quickly snatch them from underneath her care because of unbelief)
- A time of watching the Hen sitting and sometimes leaving the eggs unattended to go and find something to eat (A time of walking by faith as it appears God is not doing anything or is less interested in our affairs)
- Then finally a time for little cracks to appear and the chicks to come out of the shell
In all this, the Lord showed me he is a caring and responsible God, and that in all his promises he shows us what will happen at the end. Unfortunately he does not always give us the everyday life details but chooses to leave this to our faith and trust in Him.
