Facing Challenges - 24 November 2006
Our visit to Beira with a team from St. Matthew's was a highlight of the sabbatical. Two words which summarise much of what we experienced are "challenge" and "humbling".
The commitment and devotion of the people we met working with the streets boys of Beira was wonderful. From Augusto meeting and chatting to the street boys in the central square in Beira to Simao working at the orphanage (that our members have done so much to help build) 12km outside at Inhamizua. Behind it all is the hand of God and the vision and drive of Pastor Bonga.
It was a privilege to share for a short time in this ministry. We learnt so much from our Mozambican brothers and sisters, about God's love, about the extremely difficult conditions in Mozambique and about ourselves.
You can follow this link to a brief article on the web site.
It can be so easy for us in the West to feel sorry for ourselves, to moan and groan about the inconveniences and costs of our daily lives, the weather, the price of fuel, the inefficiencies of government, the level of crime etc, etc, etc.
I recommend a strong dose of Beira! Why not plan to come on the next trip we shall be organising or find out how else you can get involved? It will change your perspective!
To find out more do come to our special evening Sunday 10 December 6.30pm at St. Matthew's
