Friday 27th October
So far this week we have looked at how society may value us on our performance, our position or our possessions and that these are not good value indicators. We’ve seen that we are priceless because God loves us. Whatever anyone else might say or think, God has looked at us and said, “You are worth sacrificing my son for.”
This is a love that we don’t deserve, can’t repay, can’t stop and can’t control. There is nothing that will separate us from God’s love.
So, how do we respond to such love?
You would imagine that the only response is to be totally overwhelmed. But in our human condition we can easily forget or put it to one side.
Can I suggest four responses that might help you.
1) Allow God to love every part of your life. We all have areas that we consider unworthy and we try and hide them. But to be honest, every part of your life is unworthy. Worthiness, thankfully, is not necessary to receive God’s love. Allow God to love your dirt.
2) Live God’s love. Whatever you do, wherever you go, live as if God loves you, as if he’s there with his arm around you saying to everyone else, “This is my son/daughter. I love him/her.” Do this even when you don’t feel like it.
3) Reflect God’s love to those around you. It doesn’t matter if they deserve it because they don’t. This is God’s love, no one deserves it, but he loves all of us anyway.
4) Share God’s love. Every opportunity you get tell people about it. It is the source of hope in our lives and people want hope. |
