‘Rich beyond your wildest dreams!’ – 6th October 2006
Come with me for an ‘away moment’ (it’s like an away day, only shorter!). Imagine yourself on beautiful white beach, the palm trees are casting a wonderful shade, the sun is shimmering on the water, a gentle breeze is keeping you from getting too hot. On one side you have a fridge full of refreshing drinks, on the other side you have a huge cool box of food. There are books and magazines to entertain you, an ipod with all your favourite tunes. Now as you lie back and relax ask yourself ‘what’s missing?’
The one thing I didn’t instruct you to imagine is not a thing at all. It’s a person. What’s missing is company. For some of you being on your own might be a bonus but not for very long. No one wants to be alone for a long time. A good experience is usually even better when it’s shared, that’s why we take the people we love on holiday with us, it’s why we ring up our friends and tell us about a great new place to eat we’ve discovered.
The final treasure that makes you ‘Rich beyond your wildest dreams’ is found in your address book: your friends. It’s not quantity that counts here, it’s quality. Stop and give thanks today for the friends you have that really make a difference in your life. You could even write them a note telling them how much you love and appreciate them. Also spare a thought for those who live alone or feel alone. Is there a neighbour near you who may not have anyone to speak to very often?
We know that we are never alone. Jesus left us with the promise ‘I will be with you always even unto the end of the age’(Matthew 28:20)
Thank you Jesus for this precious promise of your constant presence with us.
