Our God is Loving - 15 September 2006
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we ought to love one another. No-one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.” 1 John 4: 8-12.
God is love. That is why despite being an immense, all powerful God we can be in receipt of His amazing grace. He cares about each one of us enough to send his only son to die for us; he loves us and wants relationship with us. As God has shown his love to us so we should show His love, the love of Jesus, to others.
Today, think on what Jesus has done for each of us; and thank him for it. Make the effort to show love to others, particularly to those where we find that hard. Are there apologies that we need to make, bridges that we need to build? Take the first step today. Think of ways to show kindness to others over and above your normal way of doing things.
The more that we show love to others the more we reflect the love and the light of Jesus into the world and the more that God’s Kingdom is seen. It’s up to us to get on and do it!
“I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and let your glory be over all the earth.” Psalm 108: 3-5.
