Our God is Faithful - 14 September 2006
“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God.” Deuteronomy 7:9.
Our God is great, all powerful, all forgiving and never changing; who was, and is, and is to come. God remains true to His promises; he is faithful. He is the rock on which we can build our lives.
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge: his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” Psalm 91: 1-4.
“Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving towards all he has made.” Psalm 145:12-13.
The Lord is our creator, our provider, our sustainer, our saviour, our guide and our protector.
These are the last words of Jesus recorded in Matthew’s gospel, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20. This is just one of the promises that God remains faithful to. He is with us, always. When we are not aware of the presence or touch of Jesus in what we do it is not because He has left. It does not mean that bad or unpleasant things will not happen to us; but Jesus is there to support us and carry us through.
Today, thank God that he is the faithful God who is always with us despite our seeming insignificance. Take time to rest in God for short periods during the day, more than might be the norm. Focus on doing everything that we do as Jesus would want. We can be aware of the presence of Jesus more and more, but need to take the time to focus on Him and learn how to discern his touch on our lives.
