Our God is All Forgiving - 13 September 2006
Despite being so great and all powerful God does not give us what we deserve; instead we receive mercy. Through God’s amazing grace we receive what we do not deserve; His forgiveness. Jesus paid the price for our sin on the cross and has set us free from the penalty that was due to us.
“The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbour his anger for ever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103: 8-12.
Jesus gives his forgiveness freely; no strings attached. All we need to do is acknowledge Jesus as our Lord and saviour, recognise our sin, turn from that sin (repent); and we will receive the forgiveness of God.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9.
What is our response? Do we carry on as we are, or do we try to change and make an effort to reduce the sin in our lives?
Today, if there are sins that need forgiveness then ask Jesus for that forgiveness now. Don’t hold anything back. Don’t imagine that you can keep it hidden from God; He knows about it anyway! Then, reflect on where our own individual weaknesses are. We each know where we slip into sin most often. Ask Jesus to give you strength to turn away, to try and slip up less often, and to give you the will-power to be strong. Pray that prayer every day, and don’t be surprised at the result.
