Our God is Great 11 September 2006
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1.
These are familiar words; but have you ever stopped to think about what they say about God? When we gaze up at the stars in a cloudless night sky we are awed by the vastness; the magnitude of the universe. Our God is greater than that; after all He created it. At the same time we might feel somewhat insignificant in the vastness. But despite our majestic creator God being so many times (beyond imagination) greater than us, He loves us, and thinks that each of us is worth dying for; so that we might know Him and be saved.
As we grow in relationship with God we so easily bring God down to our level and interact with Him on our terms, even trying to understand why He does what He does.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9.
Today, take time to stop and look at the world in which we live. Ponder on the greatness of a God who can create both the magnitude and the intricacy of the earth; of life. Think of how God has intervened in your life, and the lives of others, doing things that we would not have thought humanly possible.
How great is our God? He is the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, and the Name above all Names. Let’s not forget how great our God really is, and give him the worship and praise that is due to him.
“Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honour and glory and power, for ever and ever!”” Revelation 5:13.
