Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”, so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet” John 2:7–8: New International Version)
We know the story that Jesus was invited to a wedding and that when the wine ran out he asked the servants to fill the empty jars with water. On that day, nobody really knew who Jesus was except, Mary. Here again we see the God of provision who intervened when something that was initially available ran out and then he made it available, again.
Today, God is calling us to trust him and fill the area of emptiness in our lives with his word. He is asking us to speak and confess his promises over the things we want to change.
But firstly do we know the Lord well enough as Mary did on the day of Jesus’ first miracle? To be honest, it must have been the craziest thing the servants including his disciples had ever heard – “fill in the jars with water …. And then draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
As we witnessed in yesterday’s devotional, our God is a God of many wonders and surprises. On this occasion whilst many might have expected Jesus to ask his disciples to look for some money, go to the shops and buy some wine, he showed that he is a God of transformation. He can change one thing into another and any wayward situation back to normal.
Since He is the same yesterday today and tomorrow, why don’t we all believe that one day he will change our words into what ever we want to see.
Today be blessed and know that when God sees your acts of faith, he will give you more than you asked for. You may be expecting ordinary wine, but the Lord will provide the best as it is written - cheaper wine was served first and it ran out and when they asked Jesus to help, choice wine was served last and I believe it was in abundance. |
