Yeast – 9th June 2006
“The Kingdom of God is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough” Matt 13:33
I may have got the wrong meaning of this parable but it speaks to me of how the Kingdom of God grows. Only a small amount of yeast can go a long way and affect a large amount of flour. In the same way, small acts in the name of Jesus go a long way.
We saw this often in Beira but in a way it was summed up for me in the life of one person. Augusto’s father died when he was young and Augusto got lost at the age of 8 and ended up living on the streets. He was rescued by Casa Re’om and was cared for and nurtured there. Through the love shown to him at the orphanage he met Jesus and entered the kingdom of God. Now he is a young man of God. The centre has not only rescued this one child and brought him to Christ, the effect is far greater. Augusto is now a leader and influences many boys at Casa Re’om and on the streets for Jesus. He also cares for and provides for his mother and her family. He also networks with many people throughout Beira.
This is the ripple effect of the kingdom of God, (mixing metaphors), like the small mustard seed becoming a huge tree.
This thrills me. It not only shows me how worthwhile the project that we are supporting is but encourages me for the small things I do. No deed done for the kingdom of God and out of love for him will be wasted. The likelihood is that many of our deeds have this ripple effect that we don’t even notice. The person you take time to love today may influence many others for God in the future.
Let this be encouragement for us to go out today to love and serve the Lord. |
