Gratitude - 6th June 2006
When we went to the church there was a time for giving testimony at the beginning of the service. The congregation were limited to three testimonies and asked not to sing! I wonder how they usually gave testimony. The first lady stood up and said, “I want to thank God because he has kept me safe from last Sunday to this. Hallelujah!”
I don’t think I’ve ever heard such a simple and heart felt testimony. I wonder why we so rarely hear testimony like that. It’s as if we feel that only something different or out of the ordinary merits testimony. Yet each week God keeps us safe from one Sunday to the next and how often do we stop to say thank you.
Daily, we may travel many miles to work, at speed on crowded roads. Daily God keeps us safe – do we notice? We cross roads, operate electric equipment, take potentially harmful medicines (all drugs have side effects) yet God keeps us safe.
More than that most of us have far more than we need, are well fed with comfortable homes. How often do we thank God for these or do we take them all for granted?
Make today a thanks filled day.
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever and his faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 100:4&5 |
