Reviewing the Local News - 16 May 2006
Victim bears no grudge.
This news item is about a woman whose life was turned around in a flash when a 1,000lb plaque fell on her in Rugby town centre. Her injuries were severe and required an operation to remove a blood clot from her head and a lengthy stay in various hospitals. Three years on she is not fully recovered; having eyesight, hearing & walking problems. Referring to the incident she says that – “it has taken my life.” She also speaks of her faith saying “I could have strangled them at the time, but my religion says you must forgive.” The article describes the lady as a devout Christian.
Personally I think they have made her look very glum for the photo shoot and it really spoils the article in light of her faith.
A God-Filled Life
“God's readiness to give and forgive is now public. Salvation's available for everyone! We're being shown how to turn our backs on a godless, indulgent life, and how to take on a God-filled, God-honouring life. This new life is starting right now, and is whetting our appetites for the glorious day when our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ, appears. He offered himself as a sacrifice to free us from a dark, rebellious life into this good, pure life, making us a people he can be proud of, energetic in goodness.” Titus 2:11-13
What is our response to this local news in light of the fact that we are to model God’s readiness to forgive and that we have a new life starting right now. Sometimes we make our Christianity so boring. We have the most wonderful God and the most powerful message of love to share; yet we go around with sad faces and so often get caught up in our own circumstances. God is with us, he promises us that, and he never breaks a promise, let’s try looking at things from His eternal view. Have you made Christianity boring? |
