Living Temple - Thursday 4th May 2006
“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow-citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him too you are being built together t become a dwelling in which God lives by his spirit” Ephesians 2:19-22
As believers in Christ we are also part of his living, holy temple. Jesus Christ is the cornerstone, the foundation of our faith and of the church. We are each a living stone in the construction of the living temple.
“As you come to him, the living stone – rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him – you also, like living stones are being built into a spiritual house to be a royal priesthood.” 1 Peter 2:4-5
As ‘living stones’ our lives should be based firmly on the foundation that is Christ. As a part of the holy temple our lives should be ‘set apart’ for God, different from those who live in and of the world.
Today, take time to reflect on your own life. Is Christ your foundation? Are there areas of your life, things that you do, that are causing your ‘living stone’ to work loose from the temple? Are there areas of your life where you have been lured into the ways of the world by those around you or by things that you watch, read or listen to?
If things need to change then spend time with God, confess to him, ask for forgiveness and start to take the necessary steps – today.
Lord, help us make you the centre of all that we do. Give us your strength to live our lives as you would wish, living as your light in the darkness of our world as part of your holy temple filled with the holy spirit of life. Amen |
