Family of God - Wednesday 3rd May 2006
We who believe in and follow Jesus are part of God’s great family.
“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12
“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1
God is the Father, we are his children; sons and daughters of God, brothers and sisters in Christ. We are part of some family. During our recent visit to Mozambique we were fortunate enough to be able to worship at Pastor Bonga’s church; on the other side of the world, in a completely different culture, speaking a different language yet we could worship together as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Being part of God’s family is a great privilege, but it comes with responsibilities, to each other. “If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.” Philippians 2:1-2
As part of God’s family we are called to be united, in purpose and in love.
Today, take time to think on your relationships with your brothers and sisters in Christ in the church. Are there issues that need to be resolved? Are there differences that need to be reconciled? Are there apologies that need to be given? Are there family members that need our forgiveness?
If there are, then start to do something about it – today.
Lord, thank you that we are part of your family. Give us the strength to show love, support and encouragement to each other as we grow together in your love. Amen |
