God is in the House - 23 July 2010
‘I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord”’
Psalm 122:1 [ESV]
I have a memory of being a choirboy and singing these words in a vast old church building. The music floated high into the old stone vaulted ceiling and lifted me up to the excitement that people felt going up to Jerusalem to worship God in His house. On the way there they were already worshipping God in the words that they said and sung.
As a teenager, I remember our pastor often saying ‘our worship on Sunday is the coming together of our worship throughout the week’. I thought ‘what worship?’ Those words began to speak to me, and I began to realize that worship is not just something you do with other people in a special building on Sunday. In fact God is not just in that building, he’s in any house and any place and life is so much better lived with him, just like these 2 songs express:
