Working the day – 7 July 2010
I usually feel good by 11am. The day is well under way and I am ‘busy’ making progress and getting things done. Teaching isn’t always easy, but I enjoy the ‘crack’ of being with students and other staff. In fact, I find it so easy to get lost in the highs and lows of the day, that I can forget all about the fact that I am a child of God and that I am infinitely important to him until the end of the day. I often forget all about the fact that Heaven is my home for hours at a time. I walk with dulled vision, senses and ability, because I have forgotten that Jesus is the Way the Truth and the Life. I operate as though I am ignorant of the fact that Jesus became man and was nailed to a tree, just to pay the price of my sin. Stupid isn’t it!
Added to this, being an RE Teacher means that I am rarely away from the subject of God for too long, but I forget to connect with my heavenly Father. Not only do I miss out on my friendship with Jesus, but I am pretty much bound to see things from my own perspective and not Gods; as well as this, I am bound to work in my own strength not God’s.
Making a point of throwing out (offering up) “bullet point prayers” as I work, helps me stay connected to God. Thanking God for his help when I pull up for a break helps me stay connected to God too.
Remembering prayers like the one below helps too:
Make me Aware
Make me aware, O Lord,
Of the eye that beholds me
the hand that holds me
the heart that loves me
the Presence that enfolds me.
