Seated – 20 May 2010
And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus
Ephesians 2:6 [NIV]
I don’t know if you ever imagine what heaven might be like? For me, I imagine it will be something which will continually lift the spirit in the way in which we glimpse tiny moments on earth which “take our breath away”. When we read about the chorus of “Holy, Holy, Holy” being constantly sung by the many heavenly beings, I don’t imagine this to be anything like the worship we experience on earth.
Whenever an angel or Jesus appeared suddenly and unexpectedly in the bible, we hear the words “Do not be afraid” most commonly used. There is awe and fear in the presence of holiness and glory. Does this mean we will be afraid in heaven? I rather think we will be filled with a combination of awe and peace that we have never experienced – but there will be an absence of the fear that we so often feel on earth.
Our identity is that we have been raised up from the world, where darkness is more evident than light – where brokenness and evil are the overriding experience. We have been raised up and seated “in the heavenly realms”. We no longer “belong” on the earth, our true home is heaven (even if we stay on earth for 100 more years).
How does it feel to be seated with Christ? One day, we shall know this in full.
