Sainted – 18 May 2010

When we think of the word Saint, we perhaps tend to think about people who are long dead – perhaps heroes from the Bible like Saint Peter or Saint Michael or figures from history like Saint Alban (the first British Christian martyr).  But we are all sanctified (set apart for sacred use) in Christ.  We are called to be saints – we are saints.  When Paul (Saint Paul) wrote to the churches in Corinth and Rome he was writing to ordinary followers of Christ – people like you or me:

To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours:
1 Corinthians 1:2 [NASB]

To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 1:7 [NIV]

You have been called to be a saint – that is an aspect of your identity.  We may all be sinners, but we are also saints (in the process of transformation) and children of God.
