Carry On Regardless - Volcanic Ash – 10 May 2010
As I write this, life is getting back to normal after 6 days of ‘mayhem’, if the popular press is to be believed. A volcano erupted in and the impact across Northern Europe is huge – planes don’t fly, people are stranded, events don’t happen. And yet, life has carried on. Sure, there have been some inconveniences – we had a family reunion planned but the American contingent didn’t make it – it will happen in a couple of weeks. One of my colleagues was stranded in on holiday – I didn’t hear any complaints from him although Virgin got him home as soon as possible as they were paying his bar bill.
Even the Royal Navy was turned out to help Britons back to Blighty. The ‘Dunkirk spirit’ re-emerged with people helping each other to get home – people were taking small boats to to bring back the Brits.
So, the world kept turning and the date kept ticking over as it always does. A week on, most people are home. There have been various inquests and no doubt there will be months of wrangling as insurance companies look for ways of not paying out claims for costs.
And yet life goes on. Regardless of what happens, life goes on – a consistency in an otherwise unplanned and strange circumstance. God is just like that – regardless of what happens, he will always be there for us, be alongside us.
I am reminded of a picture of 2 sets of footprints walking along a beach. Sometimes, there is only 1 set as if one person has had to carry the other. That is when God carries us – because no burden is too much for him, and at times our burdens are too much for us to bear ourselves.
‘Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the Righteous fall’
Psalm 55:22 [NIV]
Have a great day.
