“ I'm gonna be a history maker in this land
I'm gonna be a speaker of truth to all mankind “
When I consider some of the great people who have made history and who had a huge impact on our nations, such as Churchill or Gandhi - or Billy Graham, who changed thousands of lives through his preaching, I find it rather difficult to think of myself as a history maker alongside them. What can I possibly do, or give, or change in order to become a history maker too?
Whilst we may not feel equipped to make great differences, we can all make small differences that add up to bring significant change and make history for somebody or some situation that we impact upon.
We are now in the midst of general election preparations, and will be surrounded by all sorts of communication from the concerned parties over the next few weeks. All sorts of promises will be made; statements of intent, reminders of failures of previous governments, and much attacking of each other’s policies (no doubt). How much of what is spoken by the politicians really is the truth? This is not a debate I wish to get into, merely a question I pose to you. Are they really speaking the truth?
“ Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” Ephesians 4:25 [NIV]
We are called to speak the truth to each other, and it is only through the truth that God’s will can be fully achieved. As humans we are often tempted to twist the truth according to what suits us and fits better with our desires and opinions. We are instructed by God to speak the truth in order that we can live as one body.
“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. Ephesians 4:15
It is not always easy to speak out against what we feel is wrong, against injustice for example, or to challenge people on decisions or actions that we feel are incorrect. But in order to grow to be more like Christ, that is what we need to be doing.
Are you prepared to be a history maker that speaks out against wrongs, and who speaks the truth into the situations that you know are wrong?
