The Great Builder – 5 February 2010

As I write this devotional, it is a few days after the Big Freeze that ended 15th January, 2010 in .  And this is how the end came about.  It rained for less than one and a half days and the Big Freeze comprising snow and slippery ice was all history.

Amazingly, what took millions of pounds of grit to maintain road traffic around the , was all gone in a day.  Hats off to all people involved in restoring and managing all services during the extreme weather conditions.  But did anyone ever stop to think what was really happening?  I did, and I am sure that many others did the same thing.

We all have seen some fancy houses and even palaces.  We have admired them and maybe desired to live in them.  We also think highly of the people who own and live in them.  But often, nobody thinks of the builder of the house.  Once he leaves the construction site its “out of site out of mind”, for most.

During the Big Freeze, this is what many who know the house “Builder” did. We prayed to God the Creator of all things including the Source of all snow. For me as soon as I figured this out, it didn’t take hours talking with the “Builder”.

Soon the cold snap that caused havoc, was gone.

He sends his orders to the world— how swiftly his word flies!

He sends the snow like white wool; he scatters frost upon the ground like ashes.

He hurls the hail like stones.  Who can stand against his freezing cold?

Then, at his command, it all melts.  He sends his winds, and the ice thaws.

He has revealed his words to Jacob, his decrees and regulations to .

He has not done this for any other nation; they do not know his regulations. Praise the Lord!
Psalm 147:15–19 [NLT]

I became acquainted with the Builder and his ways of doing things after reading these verses.  I desired the same revelation.  I asked and He gave it to me.  Now I know, He does all things.

Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the great love of the LORD. Psalm 107: 43 [NIV]
