From hatred to love – 20 January 2010

When I was young, I used to find that my state of mind was often one of bitterness and hatred, and I would find it hard to see the best in people or situations. In addition to this, I suppose I was conditioned by my peers into some prejudices which have taken me years to overcome and sometimes my first thought is the instinctive hateful one. Now, I find that I can usually see something good in the most difficult people!

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Ezekiel 36:25-26

Sometimes I find my heart turning back into stone – then I know that I need to be filled afresh with the Spirit to be transformed from the inside. God sees your heart and knows the condition of your heart, better than you know it yourself. Spend some time reviewing your heart condition today and asking God to do some cardiac surgery to soften your heart.

Lord, transform my feelings of hatred into love. Help me to see the best in others, in situations and circumstances. In Jesus name, Amen
