Refuse to Give Up – 14 January 2010
The fourth lesson on leadership we learn from Nehemiah is that he refused to give up. From the time he started mixing the mortar until the day he hung the last gate, his critics never let up. He had critics within Jerusalem, he had critics outside Jerusalem - but he took it all:- sarcasm, suspicion, gossip, threats, false accusations - you name it - but nothing could move him.
In your position of leadership you will always come under attack. There will always be people who think they know better than you. There will always be people who seek to criticise you, to spread rumours about you, to make false accusations or threats against you. Those people abound, but if you’re to lead effectively and faithfully, you cannot give in to the criticism and the attacks that will come your way.
Put your confidence in God and never give up.
It is so easy at times to throw in the towel, there have been times when I have said “Is it really worth it? There has got to be an easier way to earn a living, and probably a better living.”
But never give up, because you’re doing God’s work, how can you give up if you’re leading in what God has called you to do?
Father, restore our confidence and resolve in you today. |
