Christmas preparation – Your heart - 8 December 2009

What is Christmas really about for you? No – REALLY – what does it mean for you? Is it a time for being with family, a chance to catch up and re-connect?  Is it about the presents – the joy of giving and receiving?  Is it a time of stress and arguments, of endless tasks to accomplish before the big day arrives? 

We KNOW that it should be about Jesus, about celebrating new life, about the birth of a saviour who came to bring a message of great news and of hope for us all.  But is that REALLY what you are focussed on as you prepare?

Commit today to preparing your heart, above everything else, and before any other preparations.  Keep Jesus at the centre of everything you do to prepare, and at the heart of everything you think and say about Christmas.  If our hearts are not prepared, if they do not have the right focus, then we will miss out on the great joy that Christmas really has to give us.  It’s a very corny saying, but a very true one – Jesus IS the reason for the Season!

Lord – Take my heart and fill it completely.  Help me to have the right focus – a focus on you and on the good news that you brought as a baby, and continue to bring to me every day. AMEN.
