Christmas preparation - Your path – 7 December 2009
“Prepare in the desert the way for the Lord. Make a straight road in the dry lands for our God. Every valley should be raised up, and every mountain and hill should be made flat. The rough ground should be made level, and the rugged ground should be made smooth. Then the glory of the Lord will be shown, and all the people together will see it. “
Isaiah 40:3-5
How many times have you already said, or heard somebody say they cannot believe that Christmas is nearly here? “I have so much still to do!” is a cry I frequently hear from stressed mothers who are struggling to get ready for Christmas.
It is very easy to get lost in all the paraphernalia of Christmas, and overlook the real need we have to prepare our lives and ourselves in readiness for the coming of the King, and for the reminder of exactly what Christmas truly is.
Take time today to straighten your pathways in readiness to see the glory of the Lord. Consider what things are getting in the way for you. Ask God to show you some of the debris that gets in the way and clutters our pathways - the shopping lists, card writing, and food planning for example – and smooth the way to a Christmas when we can focus on Him, and Him alone.
Lord, Help me to prepare the way for you this Christmastime. Show me the things that clutter my path, and the things I need to do to prepare for you to enable me to see your glory. Amen. |
