God’s Love is for knowing - 27 November 2009
“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:16-19 [NIV]
More wonderful verses, these from Paul’s letter to Christians in Ephesus; too much to do justice to in one short devotional.
As followers of Jesus we know God’s love to some extent. We have a connection with God through his Spirit living within us. Through this connection we are slowly but surely being transformed, our hearts are being changed, so that we become more able to show the love of Christ to others, more able to be salt and light in the world, more able to demonstrate evidence of God’s kingdom present on earth.
The more that we can grasp the magnitude of God’s love, the more that we experience God’s love, the more we can understand God’s love, then the more that we can show God’s love in all that we say and all that we do.
The words of Paul’s prayer might be a good way of helping that process along, let’s each of us use these verses as a prayer for ourselves today:
I pray that out of his glorious riches Christ may strengthen me with power through his spirit in my inner being, so that Christ may dwell in my heart through faith. And I pray that, being rooted and established in love, I may have the power to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that I may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
