Witness - 27 October 2009
‘In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.’ Matthew 5:16
How do we witness in the world, in the everyday?
Ask yourself does your light shine forth, do you point away from yourself and to Jesus in your encounters with people, with the stranger, with those you know well?
We welcome people to our churches, we have welcome teams, we witness to our faith, our life in Jesus.
But what happens at home when the phone rings when we are busy. The caller may have an urgent need, may need a friendly ear to listen, do we give a friendly answer, ready to listen?
What of the knock at the door. The unexpected stranger standing there. They may not be welcome but do we show it?
Our witness is not just in welcoming on a Sunday in church, our witnessing is not just about talking about our faith, our life in Jesus.
Our witnessing is also about our way of life, our exchanges with others, our exchanges with the familiar and the unfamiliar.
Help us to witness Lord, help us to welcome Lord, help us to transform Lord
Lord help us to witness to make people feel at home.
