Life in God’s kingdom is good – 9 October 2009
"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field Matthew 13 vs 44: [NIV]
God’s wisdom is hidden treasure that is only revealed to those who come to Christ and humble themselves to receive his council as children. It is found only by diligently seeking Him and searching the scriptures.
Seeking God and discovering His Kingdom was and still is the best thing that has ever happened to me. When I was living a less fulfilling life of poverty, one day I found the scripture
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit," says the LORD Almighty. Malachi 3 vs 10 – 11 [NIV]
To me this was treasure and a solution to my problems. I have long since learnt that when in need of anything, you need to identify a word in the bible that speaks answers to your problem and then bring that word to the Lord Jesus Christ in prayer. I also discovered that whatever promise God has made whether in the new or old testament, its always “YES”, when you ask God for its manifestation in Jesus’ Name (2 Corinthians 1 vs 20 [NIV]).
I therefore chose to believe the word I had seen in Malachi and hid it in my heart. I went about being faithful in my studies and working and bringing my tithe to the house of the Lord as the bible says and I did this with great joy.
However, there came a time when my faithfulness seemed not to be producing any results. I was under pressure and could not see God’s blessings of a fulfilling life yet these were written all over the scriptures. For example I remembered where Jesus said of Satan:
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10 vs 10 [NIV]
Brethren, this is what we are seeing everyday in the world and on TV.
So what did I do, and how did God respond? As I said, I thought I had found treasure in His word. When I did what the word said and also used my faith to pursue my studies, the time came that I thought I had accumulated enough equity to approach the field “Owner”. I prayed ‘Lord I have been faithful. I have also used my faith to do my studies. So where is the job, etc?’
To cut a long story short, the Lord opened the flood gates. He did not only give me a good job but He brought me to a prosperous nation from where I am now able to do so much more to help others. |
