An ever present help in times of need – 7 October 2009
A butterfly was trapped in the house when I came in from town this morning. I had left the windows open, unusually, and it was windy.
Could it be that it had been blown in, accidentally by the wind or it wandered into the house out of self will? Whatever happened, God was right there in the house to lead it out to its freedom gracefully, through me!
I didn’t think for a moment to ignore it because it is so beautiful and innocent. Beautiful, yes very beautiful! Actually I thought what a privilege to be so near and even to touch something so elusive, yet so beautiful. I recalled the precious times I have seen butterflies of the same species in my garden, but to my utter disappointment they would never allow me a chance to enjoy their beauty from too close a distance.
Innocent. Yes I thought if it were an unwanted harmful intruder I would have reacted differently.
God says I am innocent and am also His son. This is because I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and I have repented of my sins. Being a son, I must also be very pleasing and impressive to look at and listen to in His sight.
Will God therefore not help His children when we cry out for help when in trouble because we have genuinely wandered off course or because of the carelessness of others?
Psalm 91 reassures us:
14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation." [NIV] |
