God’s love for us – 5 October 2009
In every area of our lives we need an experienced person to guide us. For example, if you want to fly an aeroplane you will need to go through a training school for pilots where you will be taught how to fly by experienced pilots. The same applies to the medical profession, learning how to drive and every other job or profession we find ourselves in.
Sometimes when faced with trials and tribulations, people whether Christians or not, fail to see God’s love for us and we spend a lot of time questioning the truth that He does love us.
Friends, if Satan has been vexing you to think, God does not love you, go to the Psalms of David and learn from (what I like to call) “David’s journals”. David and many others in the Bible are spiritual leaders experienced in knowing who God is and how he intervenes in our lives showing us His love and grace. Their life experiences were preserved in the Bible by a loving God to teach us.
In one of his many trials and tribulations David found himself “trapped” in an enclosed city and his enemy Saul said “God has handed him over to me, for David has imprisoned himself by entering a town with gates and bars”. And Saul called up all his forces for battle, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men. 1 Samuel 23 vs 7-8 [NIV]
In this story, David prayed for wisdom regarding what he was hearing. Some were probably saying “stay in the town, Saul will never come here. Besides, if he does, the people here will not hand you over to the enemy”. At the same time others were probably saying “if you stay, this is the end of your life”. But being a man of God, David sought council from the Lord and he was told to leave Keilah, and he escaped from the hand of Saul.
Later on David had to write for our own admonition in relation to God’s love:
“Praise be to the Lord, for he showed his wonderful love to me when I was in a besieged city. In my alarm, I said “I am cut off from your sight!”, yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help” Psalm 31 vs 21 – 24 [NIV]
If your adversary is challenging your thoughts, accusing you and even quoting scriptures that you are “cut off from God” contrary to what God promised you, then remember your cry for mercy is being heard. You, like king David, shall soon give a testimony. God loves you.
Strengthen yourself in the Lord by remembering His previous acts of love to you. It was he that delivered you from that last problem you had. It is he that woke you up and gave you your breath this morning. It was he that healed your sick baby. It was he that saved your job. It was he that protected you from being killed in that accident. So listen only to His voice – the promise He gave you. |
