Make Time to Be Still – 30 September 2009
Despite being so busy, do you often wonder where time goes? At the end of the day can you account for every second?
“ Be still and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10 [NIV]
How can we be still if we are always so busy? Today’s challenge is to make a small change, so that you have time simply to be yourself and to be with God.
Think through a typical day and look for spaces that occur normally. Perhaps there are times that you automatically fill by turning on the TV, checking your emails (again!), browsing the Internet or making a cup of tea. These moments could become spaces in which to stop and be still.
In the same way that we control how we spend our money, could we start to be intentional about creating spaces of stillness in our day?
Basil Hume, former cardinal of Westminster and Benedictine monk wrote,
“Meditation is what we do when we steal moments out of the day to be alone with God, however short that time may be…”
Lord, show me where I could find time that could be spent with you.
