Provision - 17 June 2009

Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.  May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.  Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.  And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.

Give us today the food we need…

When I began to pray this I was faced with a challenge.  If I asked God each day to provide the basic necessities that I needed, then I would have to acknowledge that He did.  I find it very easy to dwell on what I don’t have, not so easy to be thankful for what I have received.  I could see that my morning prayer might have to include thanks for all the good things God had given me yesterday.

Since I have started praying this prayer regularly I have become more aware that sometimes God’s provision comes out of the blue.  When I have a need He provides sometimes miraculously.  This applies to all of my daily needs, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

I also have to be aware that God can use me to meet the needs of others; I have to be willing to be as open handed as God is.

Father in heaven, help us to grow in our trust and faith.  Let us be confident that you will meet all our needs and eager to share your provision with others. Amen
