Guidance - 4 June 2009

“But the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26-27

“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.” John 16:13

God’s Holy Spirit does much more than empowering, connecting and convicting.  The Spirit provides revelation and understanding; perhaps something that we don’t always realise or appreciate.  The Spirit also provides guidance; guidance on the path of life. These differing facets work in tandem, to help us understand how Jesus wants us to live, and then to guide us into that life.

But how often do we use the guide within us?  How often do we hear the guide and ignore him, pretend not to hear; go with our own desires and priorities.  Do we ever consult the guide at all?

The more that we spend time connecting with God then the more we will be aware of the prompting of the Spirit within us and the more likely we will keep to the path of life that God has in store for us; the more that we ignore the guide then the more we will stumble, find blind alleys and run the risk of loosing the path completely.

Today, take time to reflect on how much you consult with God before making life-decisions, both great and small. Is there anything that you need to change?

Lord, make each of us aware of what you desire for us; help us respond and answer your call with all that we are.
