Connection - 2 June 2009

“If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you for ever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” John 14:15-17

As followers of Jesus we have the privilege of being indwelt by the Holy Spirit; that gift of God which we so little deserve, which connects us with God himself.  It’s hard to believe; our creator God the all-powerful creator of all things loves each of us so much that he wants to stay in touch – literally!  God wants relationship with us, and we are connected through his Spirit in us.  We know that we are not alone; when Jesus promises that ‘I am with you always,’ it is through the Spirit that we know that to be true.

And there’s more!  Not only do we know that we’re connected with God, we also know, through the Spirit, that we belong.

“The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.”  Romans 8:16

We are all part of God’s family, and heirs to the promises that he has made us.

Take time today to reflect on what it means to have the Spirit of God dwelling within us. Thank God for the life that it has brought and marvel at the love that God has shown each of us; his children.

Lord, thank you for your love, so freely given; and thank you that we know that we are yours, for ever.
