Before you read, take some time to put your worries into God’s hands…
“I think, therefore I am” (Descartes)
“I drink, therefore I am” (W.C. Fields)
“I shop, therefore I am” (Anon)
“A man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” (Jesus in Matthew 12:15, part of The Parable of the Rich Fool, Matthew 12:13-21)
To think about:
It might seem strange to have a study entitled ‘I’, but who we are has a lot to do with how we get rich. Many advertisements seek to convince us that we would be happier and better people if we were to purchase that item (‘..because I’m worth it’, for example)
Many people have come up with different answers about human identity – who I am, or what I am.
“From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.” Acts 17:26-28 [NIV]
What does this passage tell us about what it means to be a human being? What is the source of our being (our existence)?
