I am the one who raises the dead! - 20 February 2009
Jesus then said, “I am the one who raises the dead to life! Everyone who has faith in me will live, even if they die. And everyone who lives because of faith in me will never really die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26 [CEV]
Jesus said this to Martha after he had learnt of his friend Lazarus’ death. He then performed a miracle bringing Lararus back to life. This saying also points to Jesus’ own death and resurrection. But what is he saying to us? We will certainly all physically die some day, so he doesn’t mean we will literally never die. I don’t suppose we will ever fully grasp the meaning of this, but it is central to all Jesus is saying. We are dead in sin, separated from life by our selfish desires. Jesus is offering us a new life. In each of the “I am “ sayings he is teaching us to feed on him, trust him, follow him, abide in him and live a new life in harmony with him. What does this mean to you?
Pray - look at this prayer video(4mins) use it to help you pray for the hungry, suffering and unloved people in the world.
